What's in a Winter Share?
A winter share is a wide variety of storage vegetables as well as fresh greens from our greenhouses. Pick-up is eight Saturdays between December and April (bi-weekly, with changes around holidays). Some items are best used within the week after pickup, and other items will store well.
Each delivery will include 10-12 varieties of produce. Over the course of the season, the shares will likely include:
Best used fresh: Spinach, Cooking Greens (kale, collards, asian greens), Salad greens (lettuce mix, arugula, pea shoots)
Stores well in the fridge: Carrots, Parsnips, Beets, Turnips, Green, Red and Napa Cabbage, Winter Radishes
Stores well at room temperature: Winter Squash, Sweet Potatoes, Onions, Potatoes, Garlic
Most of the items in the share will be from our own fields and greenhouses here at Hearty Roots. A few items may be sourced from nearby certified organic or certified naturally grown farms run by friends who we know and trust.

Meat share
This year, we are offering a super-local Meat Share to our winter offerings.
Meat pickup is once a month, on the first Winter Share pickup date of the month, for five total pickups (Dec. - April).
Each pickup includes a variety of meat from our own farm or our very close neighbors. 8-10 lb. of frozen meat is included in each pickup, and the cost is $60 per pickup. A typical share will include:
- Two stew chickens (pasture raised at Hearty Roots Farm)
- Two lamb items (merguez sausage or ground meat, grass fed from Gansvoort Farm, right across the road where our own sheep graze)
- A choice of beef items (a roast from Son Val farm or grass-fed ground beef from Dirty Dog Farm or Chaseholm Farm)

Egg share
You can also add eggs on to your share!
These eggs are from our pasture-raised hens. In the summer they are out on the pasture in mobile hen houses, moved weekly to fresh grass. In the winter they move to one of our greenhouses for shelter from the snow, but they still have open access to the large outdoor area surrounding the greenhouse all day long.
