Hudson Valley CSA

Updates for 2020

We know that everyone is eager to have a steady supply of nourishing, good food during these times of crisis.  Hearty Roots is working hard to be the most direct, trustworthy, reliable way for you to keep your family fed and in good health!  Here are a few of the measures we are taking to prioritize food safety right now:

  • This year, all CSA shares will be pre-packed, ensuring that you're the only one who handles your produce.

  • Customers now have the option to spread out payment over 5 months;  we know times are tough for many and we want to make our food as widely accessible as possible.  Members in need can make special requests for assistance from our community-sourced subsidy fund;  members who can afford to support others are asked to contribute.

  • Although we are still uncertain of how our pick-your-own garden at the farm will work this year, we are planting it fully.  If public access to the garden isn't possible right away, we will figure out how to provide these specialty items to members another way.

  • Our Farm Market, carrying many regional farm goods, has transitioned to online pre-order only. We are hoping to offer our CSA members at all of our Hudson Valley CSA locations the option to add additional items to your share to be delivered alongside your vegetable share.

  • CSA members receive our farm’s freshest certified organic vegetables, from June through October.

  • We’re flexible!  You'll sign up for a default pickup location but you can always choose your pick-up day and location week to week:

Clermont, on the farm (Wednesdays, Saturdays)
Red Hook Village (Thursdays)
Woodstock (Wednesdays)
Kingston (Wednesdays)
  • Eggs are available, too! You can choose to add pasture-raised eggs to your share, and we hope to offer other regional farm products for pickup with your share as well.

  • We build community together! We hope to be able to offer farm events again as soon as it is safe to do so. Stay tuned for 2020 event updates.

What's in a share?

Each week we harvest a balance of our organic salad greens, root vegetables, cooking greens, seasonal vegetables, herbs and more.  The list of vegetables that we are planting this year is here.

A Weekly Share is designed for a medium-sized household, with 8-10 varieties of produce per week (a total of 6-20 pounds). Smaller households often choose a Biweekly Share.

Lots of Flexibility!

We have lots of options!

The main Harvest Season runs from June through October.  Within that period, you can choose:

  • Weekly Pickup

  • Biweekly Pickup (every second week)

  • Custom Schedule (contact us for details)

Members on a weekly or biweekly pick up schedule also have lots of flexibility:

  • Going on vacation?  Put your share on pause for a week or two, we'll give you a credit toward next year's share.

  • Missed your pickup?  We'll hold your share for you at the farm to pick up in the following days.

  • Want to pick up at a different location for the week?  Just give 2 days notice and we'll send your share to whichever location works best for you.

Locations and Days

You will choose a default pickup time/place when you register, but you can change your pickup spot from week to week. The 2020 options include:

  • On the Farm (1822 Rt. 9, Germantown, NY) on Wednesdays 2-6pm or Saturdays 9am – 12pm

  • Red Hook Village (Elmendorph Inn, 7562 N Broadway, Red Hook, NY) on Thursdays 3:30pm – 6pm

  • Woodstock (Woodstock Jewish Congregation, 1682 Glasco Turnpike, Woodstock, NY) on Wednesdays 4pm – 6:45pm.

  • Kingston (Hudson River Maritime Museum, 50 Rondout Landing, Kingston, NY) on Wednesdays 5pm – 7pm

If we are unable to offer pickup at one of our usual locations due to public health restrictions related to coronavirus, we will seek out a nearby alternate location;  or if we are unable to do so, offer refunds in full to members who cannot pick up.
