Hudson Valley CSA

Sign-ups are OPEN for our 2024 Main Season!

Overview

  • CSA members receive our farm’s freshest certified organic vegetables throughout the harvest season, from June through early November.

  • We offer weekly and biweekly shares to meet the needs of households of all different sizes.

  • We have five pick-up locations in the Hudson Valley:

    • Clermont, on the farm (Wednesdays or Saturdays)
    • Kingston (Wednesdays or Saturdays)
    • Red Hook Village (Thursdays)
    • Rhinebeck (Thursdays)
    • Woodstock (Wednesdays)

  • We also have a pick-your-own garden here on the farm that is available only to our CSA members! When you pick up your share at the farm, you can harvest some extra treats for yourself — herbs, flowers, cherry tomatoes, snap peas, hot peppers, and more.

  • We have payment plans available, and discounted shares for members paying with SNAP/EBT.

  • Our Farm Market is open 7 days a week! If you pick up your share on the farm, we welcome you to stop in and shop our selection of locally grown and produced goods.

  • One of our favorite things about the CSA model is that it allows us to build a community together! We love to host farm events for our members, and for our broader community. Stay tuned for 2024 event updates.

What's in a share?

Each week we harvest a balance of our organic salad greens, root vegetables, cooking greens, seasonal vegetables (like tomatoes or peppers in the summer, and winter squash in the fall), herbs and more. You can see a list of vegetables we are planting this year here.

A Weekly Share is designed for a medium-sized household, with 8-10 varieties of produce per pick-up (a total of 6-20 pounds). A Biweekly Share contains the same amount of produce as the Weekly Share, but pick-ups occur every other week instead of every week. Smaller households often opt for a biweekly share. The vegetables are harvested the day or two before you receive them, so they will remain very fresh in the fridge until your next pickup!

Here are a few examples of what your share might include throughout the season:

  • Spring — Arugula, Baby Lettuce Mix, Beets, Cauliflower, Japanese Turnips, Kale, Radishes, Fava Beans, Cucumbers

  • Summer — Bell Peppers, Carrots, Fennel, Garlic, Potatoes, Eggplant, Fresh Onions, Sweet Corn, Tomatoes

  • Fall — Winter Squash, Cabbage, Collard Greens, Kohlrabi, Leeks, Turnips, Sweet Potatoes, Mustard Greens, Salad Mix

An egg share can be added to either weekly or biweekly shares. Our hens live out on the pasture, where they can peck at the plants and mineral-rich soils in addition to eating the grain we provide. This healthy diet means we have the healthiest eggs, with nutrient-rich orange yolks. These are happy, well-cared-for chickens!

Calendar

How often will I receive a share?

The main harvest season runs from June 5th through November 2nd. Within that period, members can choose:

  • Weekly Pick-ups

  • Biweekly Pick-ups (every other week)

    • There are two biweekly schedules available. "A Week" members start pick-ups in the first week of the season; "B Week" members will start picking up during the second week of the season.

    • Check the full pick-up schedule before you sign up! Biweekly members will not be able to switch back and forth between A and B weeks during the season.

There will be two built-in holiday weeks when no shares will be delivered: the week prior to both the July 4th and Labor Day holidays.

PLEASE NOTE: The biweekly share schedule adjusts around those holiday weeks. Please review the calendar above, or you can find a full list of dates for each biweekly cycle hereA downloadable .ics file of your schedule, which you can import into your calendar of choice, will be provided in your welcome material.

We can be flexible!

  • Going on vacation? Put your share on pause for a week or two, and we'll give you a credit toward your next CSA installment payment or share purchase. (Requires 3 days' notice.)

  • Missed your pick-up? We'll hold your share for you at the farm to pick up in the following days. (This option is not available for our Woodstock or Village Grocery locations.)

  • Want to pick up at a different location for the week? Just give 3 days' notice and we'll send your share to whichever location works best for you.

  • Are you traveling this summer and know you won't be around for the full season? Email us at csa@heartyroots.com to inquire about setting up a custom schedule. (Limited availability)

At our Rhinebeck and Kingston Village Grocery locations, shares will be pre-packaged into cardboard boxes, ready to take home. At our Woodstock location, shares will be pre-assembled in farm crates; members will need to transfer the contents of their share into their own bags/boxes.

Ready to join? Here's how you sign up!

Sign up for your share in our GrownBy shop here! We love GrownBy for two reasons: it allows you to manage your own account, check on your pick-up schedule, and gives you the option to change pick-up locations and dates. Also, the software is designed by a farmer-owned cooperative that was founded by Hearty Roots’ own Lindsey Lusher Shute! It works great as an app from the Apple or Android app stores, or can be used in a web browser.

If you purchased a share from us last year, you should already have an account set up. If you are a new member (welcome!), you will need to create an account as part of your purchase. Once you are logged in, you will be able to make all of your selections (choosing vegetable and/or egg shares, weekly or biweekly, and your primary pick-up location and time) before checkout.

If you sign up after the season has started, please note that we have a 3-day order cutoff window (so if you want to sign up for one of our Wednesday pickups, be sure to place your order by Sunday night). If you have any questions or need any assistance, please contact us at csa@heartyroots.com.

Do you want to give a CSA share as a gift? Please email us at csa@heartyroots.com if you would like to give a share as a gift. We will help you set up your order, and we'll send you a gift certificate that you can give to your loved one (or a digital version that you can email them or print out at home). After the gift has been given, we will work with you to set up your gift recipient's member account and welcome them to our CSA.

Thank you for supporting our farm!
