What’s included in a CSA share?
A Weekly Share includes a variety of freshly harvested produce to be picked up each Wednesday from September 21st – December 14th (skipping November 23rd for Thanksgiving). We create our farm planting plan based on feedback from our CSA members: each week we aim to harvest a share that includes salad greens, root vegetables, cooking greens, seasonal veggies, and herbs or a specialty item. A Weekly Share is designed for a small household. Members can expect to receive 5 varieties of vegetables per week; if you add on a fruit share, there will be one additional fruit item per week (see details below). Click here for a preview of our planting plan for 2016, and a slideshow of the share list chalkboard at our on-farm CSA last season.
How are the shares packed?
Please bring your own bags to collect your share each week.
Who grows the fruit, veggies and eggs?
The vegetables (certified organic) and eggs are produced here at Hearty Roots. The fruit in the fruit share is produced by Mead Orchards, a neighboring farm. Please note that Mead Orchards is not an organic orchard, and fall fruit will consists mostly of different varieties of apples and pears.
Do you offer half shares?
The shares at this CSA site are designed for small households, with less vegetables (and a lower price) than many CSA shares. If you cook a lot, or have a larger household, we suggest that you reserve two shares.
How much does a share cost?
Weekly Vegetable share (12 weeks): $210 (includes a $5 donation to the non-profit Just Food which helps coordinate the CSA)
Fruit share add-on: $55
Egg share add-on: $72 (1 dozen eggs / week) or $40 (1/2 dozen eggs every week)
Where & when do I pick up my vegetables?
You pick up your share every Wednesday right after school, between 2:45 – 3:45pm at PS 87 (160 West 78th Street in Manhattan).
